Stationary EngineerCompensation: $49.96 per hourPosition SummaryThe Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of campus mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building automation systems. The position supports the University's educational, research, clinical, and residential operations by ensuring critical building systems remain operational, performing preventative maintenance, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a safe and comfortable campus environment.Benefits include medical, dental, and vision offered through the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399. RFU is a national leader in interprofessional research and practices, and is nationally recognized for its research in areas including neuroscience, brain-related diseases, inherited disorders, proteomics, cancer cell biology and immunology, cardiac resuscitation, and gait and balance.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesOperate, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems.Monitor and optimize BAS.Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, fan coil units, motors and associated equipment.Support research laboratories and critical environments.Complete work orders using CMMS.Coordinate contractors.Respond to emergencies and participate in on-call rotation.Improve reliability and energy efficiency.Follow OSHA, EPA, NFPA and University safety requirements.Conditions of EmploymentMust achieve satisfactory results from a background check.Required Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED; five years of commercial/institutional maintenance experience; Stationary Engineer License or equivalent; EPA Universal Certification (or within 180 days); valid Illinois Driver's License.Required Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesKnowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BAS controls, CMMS, Microsoft Office, troubleshooting, communication and customer service skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience in higher education, healthcare or research facilities; BAS experience; OSHA certification; additional trade certifications.Typical Physical Demands & Working ConditionsFrequent standing, walking, climbing, bending and lifting up to 75 pounds while working indoors, outdoors and in mechanical spaces.
